This report summarises the group's environmental compliance status for the third quarter and outlines the corrective actions required where performance has fallen below the required standard. All site managers must confirm receipt by 30 November.

**Regulatory context.** Reporting obligations have increased substantially this year. **Not only** must all sites comply with the updated Clean Air Framework by January, but they must also submit monthly emissions logs to the Environmental Agency — a requirement that has no precedent in the group's recent history. **Never** in the company's thirty-year operating history have compliance obligations been this extensive, and senior leadership fully acknowledges that this demands a fundamental shift in operational priorities across all sites.

**Birchwood North.** This site passed all three Q3 inspections without incident and continues to operate within all permit conditions. **Under no circumstances** should non-conforming waste be discharged without a valid permit — this remains an absolute requirement, and any breach will trigger an immediate regulatory investigation and potential suspension of operations. The site's waste processing team has performed consistently and merits formal recognition in this report.

**Birchwood South.** This site requires urgent attention. The August discharge incident, while promptly corrected, is now under formal regulatory review. **Rarely** do the regional authorities conduct unannounced follow-up audits within ninety days; this response is a clear signal that full compliance must be restored before year end. Site management must submit a corrective action plan to the Environmental Compliance Officer by 14 December.

**Only after** the corrective action plan has been reviewed and formally approved may Birchwood South resume full operations. Partial operations are permitted within the parameters set out in Appendix C.

**Supply chain.** **No sooner** had the Q2 audit flagged two uncertified suppliers than procurement was instructed to pause those renewals pending valid certification. Both suppliers have since provided current documentation; however, a revised supplier verification schedule — shifting from annual to quarterly checks — takes effect from 1 January. **Not only** has the August incident increased internal compliance costs, but it has also prompted a group-wide review of all discharge protocols, with refresher training scheduled across all sites in Q4.

**Costs and resourcing.** **Little did the board anticipate**, when the Clean Air Framework was first tabled, that compliance would require a dedicated environmental role at each site. That is now the committee's recommendation. **Not until** these positions are filled will monthly emissions logging be sustainable, since it currently falls to production supervisors on top of existing duties.

**Seldom** has the group faced a regulatory change of this scope with no additional headcount, and the committee wishes to record that the August incident at Birchwood South occurred in a month when the site's compliance duties were carried by one supervisor covering two roles. **In no way** should this be read as excusing the discharge; it is offered as the most probable explanation for why it was not detected sooner.

**Should any site manager** consider current compliance duties unachievable within existing staffing, they are asked to say so before the January deadline rather than after an incident. **At no point** will such a declaration be treated as a performance concern.

**Timetable.** Corrective action plan, 14 December. Quarterly supplier checks, 1 January. Refresher training completed across all sites, 31 January. **Only when** all three are confirmed will the group's compliance position be reported as restored to the Operations Board.
