Future simple — I will go
The future simple on its own: will + plain verb for predictions, decisions made now, promises and offers — plus won't and the short form 'll.
This unit takes the future simple on its own. Learn what it is for, then learn the forms.
A — When do we use will?
We use will + plain verb in these situations:
1) Predictions — what we think or believe will happen
often with I think, I'm sure, probably, maybe.
- I think it will rain tomorrow.
- She will pass the exam — she studies every day.
- In 2050 people will travel to Mars.
2) Decisions made at the moment of speaking
you decide while you are talking, not before.
- It's cold. I'll close the window.
- A: The phone is ringing. B: OK, I'll answer it.
- I'm hungry. I'll make a sandwich.
3) Promises
you give your word.
- I'll help you with your homework.
- I won't tell anybody. I promise.
4) Offers
you offer to do something for somebody.
- That bag looks heavy. I'll carry it.
- Shall I open the door? — I'll do it.
