Do you usually wear T-shirts?
Yes, I wear T-shirts very often, especially in casual, everyday situations. They're comfortable, easy to put on and suitable for most relaxed occasions, so they're a staple of my wardrobe. In warmer weather in particular, I practically live in them.
Do you like wearing T-shirts?
Yes, I really like wearing T-shirts because they're so comfortable and versatile. They're perfect for a laid-back look and can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. On top of that, they're practical and low-maintenance, which suits my lifestyle.
Do you like T-shirts with pictures and prints?
It depends on the design, to be honest. I do like T-shirts with subtle or tasteful prints, as they can add a bit of personality to an outfit. However, I'm not keen on ones with overly loud or busy patterns, as I generally prefer a cleaner, simpler style.
What colour clothes do you like to wear?
I tend to gravitate towards neutral colours like black, white, grey and navy. I find they look smart, are easy to match with other items and never really go out of style. Occasionally I'll add a splash of colour, but for the most part I stick to these versatile shades.
What are the differences between men and women's preference in colour?
Generally speaking, I think men tend to favour more neutral and darker colours, such as black, blue and grey, opting for understated tones. Women, on the other hand, often seem more willing to wear a wider and brighter range of colours. That said, these are broad generalisations, and personal taste really varies from one individual to another.
What kind of clothes do you like to wear?
I generally prefer smart-casual clothing that strikes a balance between comfort and style. On a typical day, I'll wear something like jeans with a nice shirt or a jumper, which is relaxed but still presentable. I like outfits that are practical yet look put-together.
What kind of clothes do you never wear?
There are certain styles I tend to avoid, particularly anything overly flashy or with very bold, loud patterns, as they're just not my taste. I also steer clear of clothes that are uncomfortable or impractical, no matter how fashionable they might be. For me, comfort and a clean look always come first.
Do you wear the same style of clothes on weekdays and weekends?
Not exactly — my weekday and weekend outfits are usually a little different. During the week, I tend to dress slightly smarter for work or study, whereas at weekends I go for something much more relaxed and casual. It's nice to be able to dress down and be comfortable when I'm off.
Reading a model answer is not the same as saying one. The sample above shows what a strong Part 1 answer sounds like. What it cannot tell you is how yours sounds — whether you hesitate, repeat the question back, or run out of things to say at forty seconds.

Common questions
How long should Part 1 answers be?
Two or three sentences. Part 1 is a warm-up and one-word answers stall the conversation, but a ninety-second speech on your home town is the wrong length too — the examiner has a list of questions to get through.
How long does Part 1 last?
Four to five minutes, covering three familiar topics. Your identity is checked first, then the questions start.
Can I ask the examiner to repeat a question?
Yes, and it costs you nothing. Asking for a repeat is normal conversational English; guessing at a question you misheard and answering the wrong one is far more damaging.
