Hobbies and Interests — Unit 19, Beginner English

I have many hobbies. I love listening to music. I listen to music every day. I like pop and rock music. My favourite band is Coldplay. I also enjoy playing the guitar. I play the guitar in my free time. I am not very good, but I have fun. I go to guitar lessons every Saturday. My teacher is very kind and patient.

I also like watching films. I watch films at the cinema or on TV. I prefer action films. I don't like horror films because they are too scary. My brother hates horror films too. He says they give him nightmares.

I enjoy playing sports. I play football with my friends at the weekend. We play every Saturday morning. I go running three times a week. I like running because it is good exercise. I don't like swimming. I think it is boring.

Sometimes I read books. I like adventure stories. They are very exciting. I don't read very often because I don't have much time. I prefer listening to music.

My father has a very different hobby. He is interested in photography. He takes his camera everywhere and he takes hundreds of photos of birds. He goes to the lake early on Sunday morning, because he says the light is best then.

My mother loves gardening. She grows tomatoes and flowers, and she is outside every evening in summer. She says gardening is relaxing because she thinks about nothing else.

My grandfather plays chess. He plays online twice a week with a man in Canada. They have never met, but they have played for six years.

On Sunday afternoon we are all in different rooms doing different things. My mother says that is a bit sad. So now we have a new rule: on Sunday evening we cook together and we watch one film. Nobody uses a phone.
